Travel Guide Namibia | For the balanced traveller

Sometimes it's nice to take a break and relax. Why not amongst zebras and elephants? Travel to beautiful Namibia and revel in the breath-taking landscapes and remote lodges. In this blog, we'll give you tips on how and where you can recharge your batteries in Namibia.

GONDWANA

Namibia is huge, so you need to know where to go. About a six-hour drive from Windhoek, the capital of Namibia, lies Gondwana. A canyon park that makes you feel like you have stepped onto a film set.

The park is perfect for getting away from it all and really relax. Stay in one of the lodges that are scattered throughout the park. These lodges are often remote and far apart from each other to create a truly secluded feeling. Many of these lodges have their own restaurants, swimming pools, and loungers to enjoy the sun. Please note that there are only a limited number of lodges available, therefore we recommend booking early!

Want to ensure a pleasant stay? Then the Gondwana Canyon Lodge is the place for you. Comfortable and yet ecologically responsible. You won't find any plastic shampoo bottles here and animals are left to roam freely. The lodge and its hosts let nature take its course and they try to have as little interaction with the wildlife as possible. The food offered is usually local and freshly made, given that the nearest village is about an hour-and-a-half away.

HIKE AND DRIVE

Discover Gondwana from the lodge on a safari or a hike. The lodge itself offers these, and a local guide will accompany you on your journey. You will discover expansive, desert-like landscapes.

For starters, the park is home to the Fish River Canyon, the second largest canyon in the world. Although slightly smaller than the Grand Canyon in the United States, the great thing about this area is that it has remained relatively undiscovered. There are not many tourists, so you can explore the canyons in peace and quiet. But there is no pressure to do anything, and it's fine if you just want to do nothing at all.  With a good book in hand, a comfortable sunbed, and the sun on your face, you can completely unwind in Gondwana.

ETOSHA NATIONAL PARK

If you're more interested in Namibia's wildlife, travel to Etosha National Park. It’s quite difficult to combine this with Gondwana, so we recommend opting for one of these two parks. You can also stay in one of the lodges in the park here. These are similar to those in Gondwana and offer all the luxury and tranquillity you are looking for.

Have you always wanted to spot 'The Big Five'? Well, this is your chance! The unique feature of Etosha National Park is its abundance of wildlife. It is advisable to enter the park with a guide who knows where to spot the most extraordinary animals. Lions, leopards, elephants, buffalos, and rhinoceroses can all be found in this park. It is the perfect place to mix in a few relaxing days with a drive through nature.

These are two places where you are assured of being able to recharge your batteries and do your own thing without a care in the world. Whether that means reading a book by the pool or spending a day spotting wildlife. Looking for a bit more adventure and keen to try local activities?
