Sun-drenched Mallorca is one of Spain’s most famous islands. Despite its fame, it is also quite large – so where should you start your trip and which places are absolute musts? Local Helena gives us her top tips on where to go in Mallorca to see the most scenic spots and enjoy the finest tapas.
Where she eats
LA BODEGA – We start off at the restaurant and wine bar La Bodega. Here, they serve the most delicious Spanish tapas along with a lovely wine. These wines are often from the Mallorca region, so offer the perfect opportunity to do a little local wine tasting!
BLAI – If you want to relax by the sea, head to the cocktail and wine bar BLAI. Grab a seat on the terrace and enjoy all the delicious tapas. This restaurant varies its menu each season, so there's always something new to try!
PATIKI BEACH – At Patiki Beach, they want you to feel at home. Enjoy a wonderful lunch and dinner with stunning views of the beach. Perfect for when you have planned a day at the beach and want to end the day with a lovely meal.
What she visits
BINIARAIX/SÓLLER –It’s a beautiful hike through the gorge of Biniaraix towards Sóller, Helena says. You’ll be surrounded by the towering peaks of the Tramuntana mountain range. You will pass fantastic lookout points that also overlook the village of Sóller. A wonderful experience if you want to immerse yourself in nature.
ARQUENESIA PERFUMES – You may think: a perfume shop? That’s right! Here, you’ll step into a haze of Mediterranean fragrances. Not only the scents but also the look of the shop will entice you to pause and savour every detail. With so many different perfumes, there’s bound to be one that ends up in your suitcase, bringing a piece of Mallorca back home with you.
What she enjoys
FERROCARRIL DE SÓLLER – In Palma de Mallorca, you can hop on an authentic orange train that will take you to the village of Sóller. The 27-kilometre train journey passes through the Serra de Tramuntana and the Sóller Valley, also known as the Valley of Oranges due to the many orange groves found here. The line has been in operation since 1912. Helena's tip is to take the earliest train to avoid the busy crowds. Get off at Sóller and then have lunch at Port de Sóller.
CALA S’ALMUNIA – Mallorca is famous for its fantastic sandy beaches. But which of the dozens of beaches are a must-see? Helena suggests visiting Cala s’Almunia. It is small and is nestled among the cliffs, which gives it a sheltered feel. You can unwind here, take a dive in the crystal-clear water, or take a walk along the cliffs.
ES TRENC BEACH – As mentioned above, Mallorca has numerous beautiful beaches. For those who like a less secluded spot and prefer a longer sandy beach to walk along, Es Trenc Beach is the perfect option. According to Helena, it’s a lovely beach to relax and unwind. With its shallow waters, you can just paddle your feet or venture further out to sea for a refreshing swim.
